Happy Fritz was named defendant in Criminal Case 19-051, and was arraigned Monday morning, April 23, on charges of possession and controlled trafficking of illegal substance.
According to an affidavit executed by an agent of the Narcotics Enforcement Agency, custom officers at the Palau International Airport inspected Fritz’s carry-on baggage upon arrival from a flight from Manila, Philippines early morning of April 20.
The NEA agent claimed the suspect was calm at first when her bags were searched, but as the examination of her belongings and the interrogation continued, Fritz became “increasingly agitated.”
During a secondary search on the suspect, agents noticed something ‘white’ in the suspect’s vaginal area. When asked to remove the ‘white’ material, it turned out to be a gauze, which the police suspected was used in securing the illegal substance in her vaginal area.
Fritz insisted there was nothing hidden in her vaginal area and even volunteered to go to the hospital for further search. An X-ray conducted on Fritz’s private part revealed a foreign object inside her vagina. Fritz then refused any further search even if a doctor performs it. She was, however, forced to allow a more probing inspection of her body part after narcotics police secured a search warrant.
This is the second drug arrest made in the span of a week involving Palauan citizen.
Mike Taman, was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila, April 16, l after authorities found a diaper filled with sachets of what’s believed to be methamphetamine.
Taman was supposed to travel back to Palau when he was arrested.
In an earlier interview, Narcotics Enforcement Agency (NEA) Director said, most drugs that end up in Palau are sourced from the Philippines.
